William D – Saved and Sober

Mountainside M Logo By Mountainside

2 Detoxes, 3 Rehabs, a nasty OD in 2019, and 2 separate stints of homelessness, I finally found my way back to Mountainside. Having battled addiction for the better part of 15 years, I’m blessed to say it was for the last time. Despite my best efforts starting in 2016 (Mountainside Rd 1), I just couldn’t seem to stay sober. But Jan 2, 2020 something changed, I changed. Mountainside gave me a safe place to work on myself and this time around I wasn’t going to waste the opportunity. Mountainside has quite literally saved my life twice. I’ve met some amazing people throughout my journey and have learned so much. This time I gave My Life over to Christ and have allowed Him to do work in me that I never thought possible. I can’t explain why this time was different and quite frankly I don’t have to. All I know is that I shouldn’t still be here…But God.

In July 2025 it’ll be 5 Years and 6 Months of continuous sobriety. Saved and Sober, I am Blessed Beyond measure and owe a ton of it to Mountainside. Environment, people, tools, lessons, conversations or just time; Mountainside gave me all of it. God led me there in 2016 and again in 2020. I now have a Life Better than ANYTHING I could’ve dreamed or hoped for. I am married to the Perfect Christian woman. I have gotten to watch my now 15 year old daughter go from a little girl to a young woman (sophomore in H.S.). I have 2 pretty special bonus kids from my marriage and on July 4, 2025 we welcomed my first son Onesimus to round out my Perfect Family Unit. Drugs and Alcohol are a thing of the past now, chains broken and life renewed. I live for God, I live for myself and I live for my family but really I just LIVE. I have “Let Go Let God” tattooed on my forearms and that pretty accurately states how I live my life. So grateful to everyone who has played a part in my journey and can’t wait to see what the rest of my life has in store.

I’ll close in saying this: “from a lost drug addict who quite literally has died once due to an overdose, to a humbled Saved and Sober New Creation, Life does get better.”
