HUNTINGTON, N.Y., June 25, 2026 — Mountainside Treatment Center has expanded its Long Island services with the launch of a new Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) in Huntington. The program expands access to comprehensive addiction treatment while allowing individuals to remain close to home.
This new program comes at a pivotal moment for Long Island communities. Nassau County legislators voted unanimously in March to ban the sale and distribution of kratom products, citing growing public health concerns, and Suffolk County held a public hearing this week on similar legislation, with lawmakers and addiction experts raising alarms about kratom’s opioid-like effects and addiction potential. As both counties grapple with evolving substance use challenges, the gap between available treatment and community need has become impossible to ignore. Mountainside’s experts have seen this firsthand, and the launch of PHP in Huntington is a direct response.
As the needs of individuals seeking treatment continue to evolve, Mountainside has recognized the need for a higher level of outpatient care in the Long Island community. The addition of PHP bridges the gap between intensive inpatient care and traditional outpatient programming, offering the clinical depth that some individuals need to build a stable foundation for recovery.
“Recovery looks different for everyone,” said Courtney Hulse, Director of Outpatient Services at Mountainside. “The launch of our Partial Hospitalization Program in Huntington expands access to individualized treatment and high-quality clinical care within our community.”
Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) provide a higher level of care than Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), offering multiple hours of treatment each day across several days per week. The program is designed for individuals who require intensive therapeutic support while maintaining connections to family, work, and community. Mountainside’s PHP model combines individual counseling, group therapy, comprehensive psychiatric services, and personalized treatment planning to provide integrated care that supports lasting recovery.
The launch builds upon Mountainside’s existing Huntington services, which include Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP), Outpatient Programming (OP), individual counseling, psychiatric and medication-assisted treatment options, recovery coaching, and family support services.
As Long Island lawmakers debate how to address kratom’s growing presence in the community, Mountainside has been on the front lines of treating individuals struggling with the substance, including hosting a community symposium in Huntington focused on kratom awareness and education. The PHP launch reflects Mountainside’s ongoing commitment to staying ahead of emerging substance use trends with evidence-based clinical care.
“There is no single path to recovery,” said Hulse. “By expanding our continuum of care in Huntington, we can offer more personalized treatment options and help individuals access the support that is right for them.”
