When I got sober, I had to relearn how to live life without leaning on old habits that didn’t serve me anymore. Sports like pickleball, golf, and skiing became part of that process. They gave me something positive to look forward to—somewhere to channel my energy and clear my mind. There’s something healing about being outside, pushing myself, and connecting with people who are also trying to live better. Those small wins on the court or on the slopes remind me that growth takes time and consistency, just like sobriety.
Community and family have carried me through the tougher days. Having people who truly understand where I’ve been and support where I’m going keeps me honest and hopeful. I’ve learned to build routines that help me stay grounded—things like exercise, prayer or reflection, and spending time with people who lift me up. Sobriety has taught me that it’s not about doing everything perfectly; it’s about showing up, being present, and choosing to move forward, one day at a time.
